Fastball — Pitch Recognition Guide
The fastball holds its line longer than any other pitch — no early bend, no tilt, no drop. The ball stays on a straight, rising‑perceived trajectory for the first 150–200 milliseconds.
You likely recognized the clean, straight flight path but may have hesitated on speed or location. Fastballs don’t show early movement cues — they present a “true line” longer than breaking balls, which can make them deceptively simple or deceptively fast depending on the hitter’s timing. The key is locking onto the ball’s angle out of the hand and confirming that it doesn’t deviate. Initial "line" tells you where it will end up. Is it a pitch you want to swing at or not.
They identify fastballs by the “no‑move window” — the ball stays perfectly true before any late ride or minor arm‑side run.
